New judge joins Berger Prize jury of assessors

The Walpole Society and the Berger Prize are very pleased to welcome Professor Michael Hatt to the jury of assessors for the 2025 Prize.


Michael Hatt is Professor of History of Art at the University of Warwick, and was previously Head of Research at the Yale Center for British Art.


His research has examined various aspects of Victorian art and culture, including sculpture in Britain and its empire, homosexuality and politics, and Queen Victoria’s self-fashioning. He has also published on American sculpture and race, and on art in nineteenth-century Denmark. He was a member of the Art and Design: History, Theory, Practice panel for REF2021.
