2024 membership fees

Updated: Dec 6, 2023

The Walpole Society has a proud tradition of not raising its membership fee without good reason. As the Burlington Magazine pointed out in 1956, the price of membership – £1 a year – had not changed since the Society's foundation in 1911. The membership fee has risen since then, but it has stood still since 2008. Given changes in the cost of postage and print production in recent years, reluctantly the time has come to revise our prices again.

In 2024, membership of the Walpole Society will rise from £45 to £60, for members receiving a hardback copy of the volume. For those electing to receive the volume digitally, membership will stay at £45. Posting the volume outside the UK will cost an additional £15 - making overseas membership £75.

For our institutional (library) members, all of whom receive the volume in hardback format, membership will rise from £60 to £80, and £95 for libraries requiring the volume to be delivered overseas.

At the same time, we are asking our individual members to switch their subscriptions from a standing order to a direct debit. We recognise that it may take time for members to do this, meaning that we will implement both the price and the method of payment changes over the course of 2023-4.
